Brother Matt Richards is the Africa West Area Manager for BYU-Pathway. He also manages the Middle East and North Africa. Formerly he managed Africa Central, Africa South, the Pacific, Europe and Europe East. Brother Richards first became interested in International Relations when he did a study abroad in Jerusalem before serving his mission to Spain. In Spain he met people from all around the world and determined to seek additional opportunities to study and work abroad. He attended BYU, where he studied Philosophy. During his time at BYU, he also studied abroad in Italy and taught Spanish at the MTC. After graduating from BYU, Brother Richards served as a volunteer in the United States Peace Corps in Moldova (in the former Soviet Union) for more than two years. Next he taught English in Ukraine and South Africa, where he met his wife Minkie. They were married in 2012 in the Bountiful Temple in Utah. Brother Richards did his Master’s degree at the University of Denver in the USA where he studied International Relations. Upon graduating, they moved to Turkey to work in the School of Foreign Languages in a University in Gaziantep. Their first son, Isaiah, was born in Turkey. Brother Richards began his work at BYU-Idaho nearly seven years ago and his wife is also an online student. Their second son, Khaya, was recently born in July. They live in Accra, Ghana.
