Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 while playing quarterback for Brigham Young University (BYU). At BYU, Ty broke numerous NCAA records and was twice recognized as a consensus All-American. Playing under LaVell Edwards, he threw for 15,031 passing yards, which currently ranks fifth in NCAA history and his 121 career touchdown passes is tied for seventh in the NCAA record books. Ty Detmer won the Heisman Trophy in 1990 while playing quarterback for Brigham Young University (BYU). At BYU, Ty broke numerous NCAA records and was twice recognized as a consensus All-American. Playing under LaVell Edwards, he threw for 15,031 passing yards, which currently ranks fifth in NCAA history and his 121 career touchdown passes is tied for seventh in the NCAA record books. He went on to play professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for fourteen seasons playing for the Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons. From December 2015 to 2017, Ty served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at BYU, under coach Kalani Sitake. In January 2021 Ty took on the duties of coach to a new generation of football players as he assumed the role of head football coach and athletic director at American Leadership-Queen Creek. Prior to this position he served as the district athletic director for the three ALA schools in the Phoenix East Valley. Ty says he missed the competition and see this as a great opportunity to be more hands on and teach the next generation of players.He is married to Kim Herbert. They were married 1991 and have 4 daughters, Kaili, Aubri, Mayci and Rylli.
