Dr. Joshua Jaramillo and Dr. Britlyn Orgill have found a way for BYU undergraduate premed students to be better candidates for med school admission. They founded the BYU Summer Intern Program in 2016 and are now placing 40 funded interns each year.
About this event
BYU is a powerhouse in educating premedical students but lacks a medical school. Joshua Jaramillo, MD, and Britlyn D. Orgill, MD decided to give BYU undergrads access to internships, to make them more attractive applicants to medical schools across the U.S. They found the BYU Summer Research Internship Program in 2016 to pair premedical BYU students with high-ranking research institutions across the country.
Our speakers will share how they gained traction with key stakeholders at BYU and networked nationally in order to grow from 5 students to 40 funded students each year, and how this led to the founding of the BYU Medical Society.
