In his 2021 address “Defending Our Divinely Inspired Constitution”, Pres. Oaks stated “On contested issues, we should seek to moderate and unify." Melaney Tagg is uniquely qualified to speak about what this looks like in our everyday lives. Melaney Dickson Tagg is a native Virginian. She is an engineer by degree (BS, 1984, BYU), a teacher by trade, and an advocate for civility in the public square. Melaney directs the Venn Diagram Project, an organization that seeks to gather people with opposing views on polarized issues and offer them opportunities to civilly find common ground to move forward together on contested issues. The Venn Diagram Project has applied their strategies and efforts to such issues as religious freedom and LGBTQ issues, gun rights and gun control, pro-life and pro-choice, and so on. Her efforts have been reported on in the Deseret News and her writings have been published by Public Square Magazine and Deseret Book. She was also featured on the podcast "All In". Melaney and her husband live in Loudoun County, Virginia. They are the parents of seven wonderful children and soon to be 17 spectacular grandchildren.
