About this event

2023 Moral and Ethical Leadership Conference

Timeless Perspectives in Leadership

To further our mission to “promote moral and ethical leadership,” the Salt Lake Chapter of the BYU Management Society (BYUMS) held its inaugural Moral and Ethical Leadership Conference (MEL) in Salt Lake City, UT nine years ago. Drawing from business, government, and education leaders year after year, its purpose is to provide the inspiration, education, and connections that our attendees need to explore the role of morals and ethics in a globalized world.

We will hear from speakers and scholars on ethics and on our theme, "Timeless Perspectives in Leadership".

This year's conference is scheduled to take place at the Zions Technology Center, with the central theme being "Timeless Perspectives in Leadership." This thematic choice draws parallels with President Merrill J. Bateman's inaugural seminar for the BYU Management Society, which was entitled "New Perspectives in Management."

Come hear from our esteemed guest speakers, including...

  • Nathan Osmond - Motivational Speaker, Achieving Total Awesomeness Productions
  • Boyd Matheson - Host, KSL News Radio "Inside Sources & KSL-TV "Sunday Edition" Talk Show
  • John Dougall - Utah State Auditor, Office of the State Auditor
  • Virginia Pearce - Director, Utah Film Commission
  • Derek Miller, President & CEO, Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce
  • TC Christensen - LDS Cinematographer (Fighting Preacher, 17 Miracles, Ephraim's Rescue, The Cokeville Miracle, Love, Kennedy, Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration, Gordon B. Hinckley: A Giant Among Men & more)
  • Jennie Taylor - Gold Star Widow, Founder of Major Brent Taylor Foundation & Civilian Aide to the Secretary of Army for Utah
  • Gary Herbert - 17th Utah Governor & Founder of the Gary R. Herbert Institute of Public Policy at UVU

By attending, we hope to support our local chapter's effort to "Grow Moral and Ethical Leadership Around the World." The BYU Management Society has 80+ chapters around the world and by participating in the Salt Lake chapter, you are a part of a greater network. You have the opportunity to:

  • Leverage your ability to influence reversing the decline of moral standards
  • Expand your sphere of influence and advance your leadership opportunities
  • Provide you with a means of developing and deepening relationships with others who share your values

Therefore, we seek to envision, create, and sustain an organizational structure that meets that need. We likewise seek to affiliate with individuals and institutions that can accelerate our ability to fulfill our vision. Additionally, our chapter provides student scholarships. Donations help us fund our scholarship efforts, pay it forward here. Thank you for your generosity and support of our student scholarships.

Continuing Education Credits

This conference will provide 5 CPE credits. There will be a volunteer available with evaluations and attendance registration; you may also check at the registration table with additional questions.
