Elder John H. Groberg was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the third of eleven children. His service as a young missionary among the Tongan people has become somewhat legendary. Upon returning from his mission he married Jean Sabin in the Los Angeles Temple. They have been blessed with 11 children, 45 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Elder Groberg loves the Lord and has served Him with all of his heart as a bishop, a mission president, a regional representative, as a member of the First Quorum of Seventy for 30 years, and as President of the Idaho Falls Temple. They have raised their family in Idaho Falls, Indiana, Tonga, Hawaii, Bountiful, Argentina and Hong Kong.
He is the author of five books, the first one In the Eye of the Storm about his experiences as a young missionary in Tonga, was made into the Disney distributed film The Other Side of Heaven. The second one The Fire of Faith about his and his families experiences when they returned to Tonga as Mission President, was made into a sequel movie The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith. The other three titles are Anytime Anywhere, Refuge and Reality (which shares temple feelings and experiences) and most recently Eternity is Now.
His wife of 64 years passed away on October 8, 2021 from Leukemia. He is learning a new the importance of family and has an even deeper appreciation of his wife and his posterity. He has a strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and His church on the earth today, of Temples, of The Book of Mormon, and of modern day Prophets. He loves missionaries and missionary work and knows that gathering Israel by helping build and strengthen the Kingdom of God on both sides of the veil is the most important work on earth today.
