Join us to hear from Casey Castillo, CEO of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, San Diego County's largest hunger-relief organization. Learn more about the Food Bank’s mission and how food banking is a critical component of the region’s social safety net.
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is San Diego County’s largest hunger-relief organization. Last year, the Food Bank distributed 45 million pounds of food through more than 100 direct food distributions and through a network of 544 nonprofit distribution partners. The Food Bank currently serves nearly 400,000 people every month in communities through the county.
Casey Castillo, CEO, will provide an in-depth look at how the San Diego Food Bank operates behind the scenes including how the Food Bank pivoted, practically overnight, to change its distribution model to meet the exponential increase in demand caused by pandemic. Casey will explain how the Food Bank is continuing to meet sustained demand for food assistance in the current post-pandemic inflationary environment in one of the most expensive regions of the country. He will also share newly released socioeconomic and demographic data from a special study, conducted by San Diego State University on behalf of the Food Bank, that illustrates the economic impact of the Food Bank in the local economy, the drivers of demand for food assistance, and the faces of hunger that make up its service population.
